Canary Islands Health Service Launches Mobile Blood Drive Campaign Across Tenerife

The Canary Health Service has launched a series of mobile blood drives across Tenerife to address urgent supply shortages, while continuing to accept donations at various fixed centers and hospitals.

The Canary Islands’ healthcare system is once again calling on the public for help. Because human blood cannot be manufactured, the Canary Health Service (SCS) relies on regular donations to keep up with the constant demand for surgeries, cancer treatments, and emergency care.

To make donating as easy as possible, the General Directorate of Blood Donation and Hemotherapy has launched an extensive schedule of mobile blood drives across Tenerife. These units will visit several municipalities, including Icod de los Vinos, La Orotava, La Laguna, La Guancha, Granadilla de Abona, San Miguel de Abona, and Arafo.

Mobile Unit Schedule:

  • Monday: Santa Bárbara Golf and Ocean Club, San Miguel de Abona (9:45–13:00); Alcampo Shopping Center, La Laguna (16:45–20:45).
  • July 14–16: Juan Carlos I Auditorium, Arafo (check local listings for specific morning/afternoon times).
  • Tuesday: Punta del Hidalgo, La Laguna (10:15–13:30 and 17:15–20:30).
  • Wednesday: Bajamar, La Laguna (10:30–13:30 and 17:15–20:15).
  • Thursday: Plaza de la Catedral, La Laguna (10:00–13:45 and 17:00–20:15).
  • Friday, July 17: Aldeas Infantiles, El Tablero (10:00–13:45).

Fixed Donation Centers:

If you cannot make it to a mobile unit, you can visit these permanent locations:

  • El Trompo Multicenter, La Orotava: Monday–Friday (10:15–13:30 and 17:15–20:30).
  • Méndez Núñez Street, Santa Cruz: Monday–Friday (9:15–20:15).
  • San Isidro Health Center, Granadilla de Abona: Monday–Friday (10:00–13:30 and 14:15–19:30). Parking is available; for inquiries, call 677 980 518.

Hospital Donation Points:

  • University Hospital of the Canary Islands: Sunday–Friday (8:30–21:30) and Saturday (8:30–14:30 and 15:30–20:00). No appointment needed. Call 922 678 670.
  • Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital: Monday–Friday (8:00–20:00) and Saturday (9:00–13:00). No appointment needed. Call 922 602 060.
  • San Juan de Dios Hospital: Monday–Friday (10:30–12:30).
  • Hospiten Bellevue, Puerto de la Cruz: Monday–Friday (11:00–14:30). Appointments are required; please call 922 385 235 (select option 1).
