Canary Islands Health Service Issues Urgent Appeal for Blood Donations
The Canary Health Service has launched an urgent appeal for blood donations across the islands to bolster hospital reserves during the high-demand summer season.
The Canary Health Service (SCS) has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations, warning that hospital reserves are under pressure this summer. Despite the holiday season, the demand for blood remains high and can spike unexpectedly. Because blood cannot be manufactured artificially, altruistic donations remain the only way to support life-saving medical treatments.
To maintain supply, health authorities have launched a special logistics plan using both major hospitals and a network of mobile units across the islands.
Tenerife Donation points include the Leroy Merlin in Adeje this Friday, with extended hours at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands and Nuestra Señora de Candelaria over the weekend. Next week, mobile units will visit the "Nectar of Life" event in Tejina and the El Trompo shopping center in La Orotava.
Other Islands
- Gran Canaria: Units are at the Siete Palmas shopping center this Friday. Upcoming locations include Santa María de Guía, La Atalaya, Valleseco, the Las Arenas shopping center, the Arinaga Industrial Estate, and the Alcampo shopping center in Telde.
- Fuerteventura: The campaign is currently active in Gran Tarajal with varying daily schedules.
- La Palma: A two-week tour begins on the 10th, visiting Breña Alta, San Andrés y Sauces, and Santa Cruz de La Palma.
