The Canary Islands government has approved technical plans for 18 new subsidized homes in El Sauzal, Tenerife, clearing the way for a 3.8-million-euro construction project to address local housing shortages.

Public housing in the Canary Islands has reached a new milestone in El Sauzal, Tenerife, where the regional government has officially approved the technical plans for 18 new subsidized homes. According to the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, this approval clears the way for the bidding process to begin, with a total budget of 3,885,510.67 euros, including taxes.

The project, located on Calle San Nicolás, involves more than just building the structures. The approved plans include all essential infrastructure and systems, such as telecommunications, plumbing, sanitation, fire protection, and electrical and thermal installations. This ensures the homes will be fully ready for residents as soon as they are completed.

This development comes as the Canary Islands face significant pressure on the real estate market, with a shortage of affordable housing prompting the government to speed up direct construction. While this approval is not the final contract award, it is a major step forward in the government’s plan to increase the public housing supply. These 18 units represent a targeted effort to address the housing shortage in northern Tenerife while meeting modern residential building standards.
