The Canary Islands government has approved a €16 million project to construct 59 subsidized homes in Arona, Tenerife, as part of a broader initiative to address the regional affordable housing shortage using European recovery funds.

The Canary Islands government has officially approved plans to build 59 subsidized homes in Arona, Tenerife. The €16 million project is part of a wider regional effort to tackle the shortage of affordable housing across the islands.

The new development will be located in the "Marazul" sector, between Astrón and Estrella Polar streets. It includes the homes themselves, parking spaces, and all necessary infrastructure, such as plumbing, electricity, and climate control systems. The project is being funded by the European Next Generation recovery fund, which is helping to address the current housing crisis.

This development is the first stage of a larger plan to build 159 homes across Tenerife, with further projects scheduled for Adeje and Guía de Isora. Regional authorities are fast-tracking these plans to increase the supply of public housing, with similar initiatives already in the works for Arrecife and Santa Lucía de Tirajana.

This move is particularly important for families living in southern Tenerife’s tourist areas, where a lack of affordable housing has made it increasingly difficult for residents to find homes. By using European funding, the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility aims to boost the supply of protected housing and encourage new construction in the region.
