Canary Islands Government Announces 15-Day Holiday Calendar for 2027

The Canary Islands government has announced a major update to the 2027 holiday calendar. Residents will have a total of 15 non-working days next year, a figure that combines national holidays, regional observances, and specific celebrations for each island and municipality.

This increase comes as the government moves to reclaim holidays that previously fell on a Sunday and were not moved to the following Monday. By adjusting the calendar this way, officials aim to ensure that workers receive the full number of rest days they are entitled to under current regulations.

The holiday schedule is determined by three levels of authority: 12 days are set at the regional level, one day is dedicated to each island’s patron saint, and two additional days are decided by local town councils.
