Canary Islands Forecast: Warm Temperatures and Strengthening Trade Winds Expected Sunday

The Canary Islands will enjoy stable, warmer weather this Sunday, according to the latest report from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). While skies will be mostly clear, the trade winds are expected to pick up significantly by the afternoon.

Temperatures will vary across the islands. Coastal areas, such as Santa Cruz de Tenerife, can expect highs between 20°C and 28°C. However, inland areas of Gran Canaria and the south of Fuerteventura may see temperatures climb above 30°C. This heat is typical for the islands, where the landscape often dictates local temperature differences.

Expect clear skies for much of the day. While some northern areas of the higher islands may see low clouds early in the morning and late at night, these will likely clear up by midday, bringing plenty of sunshine to islands like Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro.

The main change to watch for is the wind. Starting as a light to moderate breeze, the northeast wind will strengthen as the day goes on. Gusts could become quite strong on the eastern and northwestern slopes of Tenerife and other exposed mountainous areas. At sea, conditions will range from slight to moderate, though southern and western coasts should remain calmer.
