Canary Islands Forecast Unseasonal 30°C+ Weekend Heat
The Canary Islands anticipate an unseasonably warm weekend with temperatures exceeding 30°C, particularly on Sunday, despite strong winds forecast for Tenerife on Saturday.
The Canary Islands are set for a warm weekend, with Sunday expected to be the hottest day. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), temperatures could climb above 30 degrees Celsius in the mid-slopes of the southern central islands and inland Fuerteventura. This is unusually warm for early November, especially as it follows a Saturday with strong winds in Tenerife.
Aemet predicts clear or partly cloudy skies for most of the Canary Islands on Saturday, with a few cloudy spells in the low-lying western areas. Daytime temperatures will start to creep up, particularly in inland Tenerife and the eastern islands, while night-time lows will stay much the same.
Wind will be a key factor on Saturday. While generally light, blowing from the south and later shifting east and northeast, Tenerife will experience strong gusts. Aemet specifically warns of very strong winds in the central peaks of Tenerife.
Sunday will remain stable with mostly clear skies, though some medium and high clouds might appear. Temperatures are set to rise across the board, especially in the peaks and mid-slopes, where Aemet forecasts over 30°C. Lower areas will see moderate easterly winds, while mid-slopes will have variable winds.
As the new week begins, Monday is expected to see a slight drop in temperatures. Winds will ease to moderate, or even light in higher areas. Skies will be partly cloudy to start, but clouds will become more widespread in the afternoon, especially over the mountainous islands. Winds will blow moderately from the northeast in the eastern province and from the east in the western province, maintaining a general stable weather pattern across the Archipelago.
So, despite it being autumn, the heat will persist. Aemet predicts temperatures will stay around 30 degrees in Tenerife and the province of Las Palmas. While there might be a small dip, night-time temperatures will remain largely unchanged.
