Canary Islands Forecast: Trade Winds Bring Mixed Weather and Gusty Conditions
The Canary Islands will experience stable but varied weather this Saturday, with Aemet warning of strong wind gusts and cloudy, drizzly conditions on northern slopes contrasted by clearer skies elsewhere.
This Saturday, the Canary Islands will see stable weather, though conditions will vary significantly depending on where you are due to the trade winds. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the northeast wind will create a clear divide in temperature and cloud cover between the islands' exposed northern slopes and their sheltered areas.
In Tenerife, low clouds will gather in the north below 1,200 meters, which may bring light rain to the northeastern midlands. The rest of the island will generally stay clear, aside from some morning clouds in the west. Temperatures will remain steady, between 19°C and 24°C, with a slight increase expected at higher altitudes.
Wind will be a major factor, particularly in the southeast and northwest, as well as the southern slopes of Anaga. Aemet warns that gusts could become very strong in these areas by the afternoon, while the western coasts will experience lighter breezes.
This pattern is consistent across the archipelago. The higher islands will see similar conditions: cloudy northern skies with a chance of light drizzle, contrasted by sunnier weather elsewhere. In the eastern islands, clouds in the north and west will gradually clear throughout the day. Because moderate winds and strong gusts are expected in exposed areas, officials advise caution throughout the weekend.
