The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has released its forecast for Tuesday, August 18, predicting rising temperatures in the higher altitudes of the Canary Islands and unsettled weather on the peaks of Tenerife. This combination of heat and strong winds highlights how the islands' varied terrain significantly influences local weather.
In Tenerife, temperatures in Santa Cruz are expected to reach 31°C, while the central peaks will face strong southwesterly winds. The day will start with persistent cloud cover and a chance of light rain in the northern midlands, though skies should clear by the afternoon, leaving only some high clouds.
Similar conditions are expected across the rest of the archipelago. In Gran Canaria, there will be a clear contrast between the north and south: the northern and eastern slopes will remain cloudy throughout the morning, while the south stays clear. Temperatures in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will range from 23°C to 27°C, with a slight increase in the higher areas.
The western islands will follow a similar pattern. La Palma will see highs of 27°C in the capital, with morning clouds and a chance of light, isolated rain in the northeast before clearing. La Gomera is forecast to reach 29°C in San Sebastián, while Valverde on El Hierro will see temperatures between 17°C and 23°C. Both islands will start the day with clouds that should dissipate, though some light drizzle remains possible in more humid areas.
In the eastern province, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will remain stable. Both islands will see low clouds for the first half of the day, turning into medium and high clouds later on. Maximum temperatures will reach 28°C in Arrecife and 27°C in Puerto del Rosario. This weather is typical for a Canarian summer, as trade winds and the islands' unique geography create different conditions for each area.
