Canary Islands Forecast: Rising Temperatures and Haze Expected This Week

Source: El Día

The Canary Islands are experiencing rising temperatures and hazy conditions this week, accompanied by steady trade winds and localized cloud cover on northern slopes.

The weather in the Canary Islands is stabilizing this week, though it comes with a mix of rising temperatures and dusty air. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), a light haze will move across the islands this Wednesday, mainly affecting higher elevations and mid-altitude areas. This, combined with steady trade winds, will define the weather for the next few days.

Temperatures are on the rise, with the heat most noticeable in the mountains and mid-altitude regions across the archipelago. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, highs are expected to reach 25°C, while Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will see temperatures climb to 26°C and 25°C, respectively. The haze is expected to become more visible as the day goes on.

Moderate northeast winds will continue, generally blowing at force 4 to 5, though they could reach force 6 in some coastal areas. These typical trade winds will bring strong gusts to the northwestern tips and eastern coast of Tenerife, as well as the southeastern and northwestern slopes of Gran Canaria.

The skies will be split: northern slopes below 1,200 meters will remain cloudy with a chance of light rain, while the rest of the islands will enjoy clearer weather. While the day will see plenty of sunshine, the high-altitude haze and warmer temperatures will remain the dominant features of the current forecast.
