Canary Islands Forecast: North-South Weather Divide Expected Sunday

The latest report from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) indicates that the Canary Islands will experience a sharp contrast in weather this Sunday. Driven by the trade winds, the islands will see a clear divide between the northern and southern regions, affecting both cloud cover and sea conditions.
In Tenerife, the northern and northeastern midlands can expect cloudy skies and a chance of light rain, particularly during the early morning. While the south will remain mostly clear, some instability could move into the southern midlands by late afternoon. Temperatures along the coast will remain stable, with Santa Cruz de Tenerife seeing highs between 23 and 29 degrees, though it will be slightly cooler at higher altitudes.
This pattern will be mirrored across the other mountainous islands. Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro will all see cloudy skies and a risk of light rain in the north, with clearer conditions in the south. Meanwhile, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will experience a mix of sun and clouds, with maximum temperatures reaching 28 and 27 degrees, respectively.
Northeasterly winds will be the primary factor for those at sea, with strong gusts expected in the southeast and northwest of Tenerife. A light westerly breeze is forecast for the central peaks. Sea conditions will be rough to very rough, with winds reaching force 4 to 6 and swells of one to two meters. Given these conditions, those planning maritime activities this weekend are advised to remain cautious.
