The Canary Islands Fado Festival is back for its ninth year, kicking off today at the University of La Laguna (ULL).
The festival includes two concerts, an exhibition, and a film screening.
This afternoon at 5:00 PM, the "Echoes of Fado in Portuguese Art (19th-21st Centuries)" exhibition opens at the Paraninfo Pablo González Vera Art Gallery. You can see it there until October 30.
Tonight at 8:30 PM, Portuguese singer-songwriter José Geadas will be performing at the ULL. On October 23rd, also at 8:30 PM, singer Sofía Ramos will take the stage. Tickets for each concert start at 10 euros and are available at ecoentradas.com.
Also on October 23rd, at 7:00 PM, there will be a free screening of the documentary "Fado" by Aurelio Vasques and Sofía Portugal. The film explores the meaning of fado, both for those familiar with it and newcomers, through the eyes of its creators – from composers and guitarists to singers and scholars.
