Canary Islands Environmental Film Festival Announces Lineup and Charity Initiative
The Canary Islands International Environmental Film Festival has opened ticket sales for its latest edition, featuring a curated lineup of international films to support environmental activism and sustainability education.
The Canary Islands International Environmental Film Festival (Ficmec) is officially gearing up for its next edition, once again serving as a hub for both filmmaking and environmental education. Organizers have finalized the feature film lineup and opened ticket sales, with all proceeds going to support an environmental project led by Salvadoran activist Zenayda Serrano.
This year’s program features four international films: Arco (a France, U.S., and U.K. co-production), Until the Mountain (French-Canadian), and two island premieres: Dandelion’s Odyssey (France and Belgium) and DJ Ahmet (North Macedonia, Czech Republic, Serbia, and Croatia). Tickets for these screenings are priced at a symbolic two euros. Attendees can also enjoy "Film Brunches," which pair movie screenings with local food for ten euros per ticket.
The festival, held primarily in Garachico and Icod de los Vinos, is supported by the Tenerife Island Council. José Carlos Acha, the island’s Minister of Culture, Museums, and Sports, noted that the festival’s environmental education program is now in its sixteenth year. He emphasized that Ficmec is more than just a film event; it is a tool for social cohesion and a way to encourage collective action against the climate crisis.
Beyond the screenings, the festival offers a variety of free activities, including the EcoRueda film competition, photography workshops, and technical sessions titled Playing Green, Photosynthesis, and Vulcanalia. Participants can register for these free events through the festival’s website, while screening tickets are available via the Tickety portal.
By blending independent cinema with philanthropy and local engagement, Ficmec has become a cornerstone of the Canary Islands' cultural calendar. Its focus on involving younger generations in conversations about sustainability highlights the power of thematic festivals to drive social change.
