Espacio La Granja in Tenerife and Teatro Guiniguada in Gran Canaria are hosting a weekend of performances, featuring the premiere of La Conexión’s music-industry satire La música es lo nuestro and the acclaimed experimental show Nozing by Ual.la!.

The Canary Islands’ cultural scene is buzzing this weekend with new performances at government-managed venues.

This Friday at 8:00 p.m., Espacio La Granja in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host the premiere of La música es lo nuestro (Music Is Our Thing). Created by the company La Conexión during an artistic residency at the venue, the play uses humor and music to explore the challenges young artists face in the music industry. The story follows two performers who travel to Madrid to pursue their professional dreams with the help of an agent. Starring Ignacio de la Lastra, Joel Morales, and Mabel Quintero, the show features a diverse soundtrack, blending Italian classics with socially conscious rap.

La Conexión was founded in 2022 by De la Lastra and Morales, both of whom are trained in Dramatic Art and have backgrounds with groups like Delirium Teatro. Through this project, they aim to shed light on the job insecurity and personal pressures common in the creative world. Tickets are available online and at the venue’s box office.

The programming at Espacio La Granja continues on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. with Nozing, an experimental show by the Catalan company Ual.la!. The production, which will also be performed on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the Teatro Guiniguada in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has earned critical acclaim at the Fetén fair and received Max Award nominations for Best Musical Show and Best Musical Composition. Directed by Alba Rubió and Modesto Lai, the performance explores how art can be created from nothing, focusing on the precise synchronization of sound, image, and technical skill.
