Canary Islands Broadcaster Renews Partnership to Televise Candelaria Festivities
Canary Islands public media has renewed its partnership with RTVE and local authorities to provide expanded broadcast and digital coverage of the annual festivities honoring the archipelago’s Patron Saint in Candelaria.
The Canary Islands' public radio and television broadcaster has renewed a strategic partnership with RTVE, the Candelaria City Council, and the Dominican Order to broadcast this year’s festivities honoring the archipelago’s Patron Saint. This agreement builds on a collaboration that began in 2019, ensuring continued media coverage for one of the islands' most important cultural and religious events.
Representatives from all four organizations signed the agreement at the Candelaria town hall, strengthening the link between national and regional public media. Under the new plan, RTVE will handle the production and technical signal, while the regional broadcaster will increase its news coverage. New additions this year include broadcasting the midday and evening news directly from Candelaria and streaming content via the Canarias Play platform to reach a global audience.
Special programming kicks off this Thursday with an opening speech by former Attorney General Eligio Hernández Gutiérrez. The event schedule blends religious services with cultural performances by artists such as Ara Malikian, Los Sabandeños, and Café Quijano. The festivities will culminate on August 15 with the solemn Eucharist and procession. The network will also feature a special segment, "Pilgrims' Night," to capture the atmosphere following the traditional Guanche ceremony.
This coverage is part of a broader effort to preserve the intangible heritage of the Canary Islands. Following a similar agreement for the Fiestas del Pino in Gran Canaria, this pact highlights the public broadcaster’s commitment to efficient cooperation between government bodies. With a dedicated production set in the town and extensive updates across digital and social media, the network aims to ensure these historic festivities reach as many people as possible.
