The Canary Islands are bracing for unsettled weather this Friday as the State Meteorological Agency warns of strengthening winds and high-altitude haze across the region.

The Canary Islands are facing unsettled weather this Friday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). High-altitude haze and strengthening winds are expected to impact the region, particularly on northwest-facing slopes and higher elevations.

This light haze will mostly affect mid-altitude areas and mountain peaks. Temperatures will remain generally stable across the islands, though there will be some local variation. In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures will range from 18°C to 25°C. Northern lowlands can expect some cloud cover, with clearer skies arriving by midday. Winds from the north and northwest will be strongest in the south of Anaga, particularly during the early morning and late evening.

Conditions vary across the other islands in the province. La Gomera will see a slight drop in maximum temperatures, reaching between 19°C and 23°C, while La Palma will remain stable or see a slight rise, with temperatures between 18°C and 22°C. El Hierro will be the coolest, with temperatures ranging from 13°C to 17°C. On these islands, wind will be a significant factor by the afternoon, with strong gusts expected at the southeastern and western ends, as well as on the peaks of El Hierro.

The combination of suspended dust and accelerating winds highlights how the islands' complex terrain influences the local climate. Aemet advises caution in areas where strong gusts are forecast. While these winds are common in the region, they require monitoring due to their potential impact on air and sea travel, as well as outdoor activities.
