Canary Islands Asphalt Rally Championship Resumes with 50th Anniversary Rally Ciudad de Telde
The 50th anniversary Rally Ciudad de Telde marks the midpoint of the Canary Islands Asphalt Rally Championship this weekend, featuring a tight title battle between leader Alexey Lukyanuk and challenger Enrique Cruz.
The Canary Islands Asphalt Rally Championship returns this weekend after a seven-week break. The Rally Ciudad de Telde, celebrating its 50th anniversary, marks the midpoint of the season and is set to be a turning point for the standings, featuring 110 competing vehicles and 15 in the Regularity category.
The title race is currently a duel between Tenerife’s Enrique Cruz and Cypriot driver Alexey Lukyanuk. Lukyanuk leads the table with 116 points, largely due to his performance in the additional timed stages (TC+), where he has earned nine points compared to Cruz’s five. Cruz, sitting at 114 points after wins in Adeje and Rally Norte, hopes to repeat his victory from last year in his Toyota Yaris, co-driven by Yeray Mujica.
Other drivers remain in contention for the championship. Yeray Lemes holds third place with 98 points, while Sergio Fuentes follows with 89 points, looking to improve his consistency. Manuel Mesa is also aiming to build on his recent progress.
This edition also marks the return of Miguel Ángel Suárez. The driver from La Palma, who has been sidelined for health reasons since the Rally Villa de Teror, is back behind the wheel of his Citroën C3.
The rally takes place today and tomorrow, featuring ten timed stages. The action begins tonight with a 2.78-kilometer special stage at 9:30 p.m. Saturday’s schedule starts at 8:30 a.m. and includes the bulk of the route, with three passes through three different sections totaling 81 kilometers. The event is scheduled to conclude with the final TC+ stage at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow.
