Canary Islands Approves €175M TF-1 Third Lane Project
The Canary Islands Government has approved a 175.4 million euro project to add a third lane to the TF-1 motorway between Oroteanda and Las Américas in southern Tenerife, aiming to increase capacity and improve traffic flow.
The Canary Islands Government has given final approval to plans for a third lane on the TF-1 motorway between Oroteanda and Las Américas in southern Tenerife. This project, costing 175.4 million euros, is expected to take 42 months to complete, according to the Department of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility.
The project, overseen by the Directorate General of Road Infrastructure, aims to increase the road's capacity, improve traffic flow, and boost safety on one of the busiest stretches in the archipelago. The government announced this in a statement on Wednesday.
Officials explain that the Oroteanda–Las Américas section is part of a larger plan to add a third lane to the TF-1 between San Isidro and Las Américas. This is seen as a crucial step to handle the steady increase in traffic in the south of the island and to better connect its towns and tourist areas.
The new lane will stretch from kilometer 64, just after the Oroteanda interchange (San Miguel de Abona), to kilometer 73.760, past the Las Américas interchange (Arona and, to a lesser extent, Adeje). It involves building a third lane in both directions and upgrading the Parque de la Reina, Guaza, Los Cristianos, and Las Américas interchanges.
Additionally, the TF-28 road, which leads to Hospital del Sur, will be widened to two separate two-lane roads. This is to improve direct access between the TF-1 and the hospital. The project, designed by UTE FHECOR Ingenieros Consultores S.A. and Trazas Ingeniería S.L., has successfully passed all required technical and environmental checks.
