The Canary Islands' animation sector is gaining global recognition as the collaborative short film AI vs. Gods begins its international festival circuit at Sitges and FilmQuest.

The Canary Islands are cementing their reputation as a strategic hub for digital animation, highlighted by the international success of the short film AI vs. Gods. A collaboration between Honestree Island and 3Doubles, the project has officially launched its festival circuit with screenings at two major genre events: the Sitges Film Festival and the American festival FilmQuest.

Selected from over 1,900 entries, AI vs. Gods serves as a prime example of the Canary Islands' thriving audiovisual industry. Juan Saussol, CEO of Honestree Island, credits the move to Gran Canaria and the project’s success to the support of organizations like Proexca and the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC) tax incentives. Saussol emphasizes that these resources, combined with local talent, are essential for competing in today’s global market.

The film offers a modern take on Lovecraftian cosmic horror. Its plot centers on a clash between an all-powerful artificial intelligence and an entity that defies algorithmic logic. As the machine faces this unknown force, it experiences a new kind of vulnerability, prompting viewers to reflect on the limitations of technology.

The film’s festival journey began at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, where it was featured in the "Sitges Family" section. It will also hold its international premiere at FilmQuest in Utah, competing in the animated short film category. This recognition validates the technical quality of the work and proves that Canarian production companies can successfully combine public and private support to create independent projects that resonate with science fiction and horror audiences worldwide.
