The Canary Islands are once again projected to spend significantly less than the national average on Spain's 2025 Christmas Lottery tickets, with an estimated 47.24 euros per person.

People in the Canary Islands are once again expected to spend the least on tickets for Spain's big Christmas Lottery. Estimates for the December 22, 2025 draw, held at Madrid's Teatro Real, suggest each person in the Canary Islands will spend about 47.24 euros. This is much less than the national average of 76.08 euros per person.

However, these figures are just estimates. The final spending will only be known after the lottery campaign ends and unsold tickets are counted. These predictions were shared during the official launch of the lottery's advertising campaign at the Royal Mint.

Looking at spending across Spain's regions, the Canary Islands are near the bottom. Only the Balearic Islands (42.94 euros per person) and the cities of Melilla (17.32 euros) and Ceuta (19.10 euros) are expected to spend less.

On the other hand, people in Castile and León are predicted to spend the most, averaging 121.28 euros. Asturias (119.67 euros) and La Rioja (113.96 euros) follow closely. Aragon, Cantabria, and the Basque Country also spend much more than the national average.

This spending pattern is consistent every year, showing how different regions in Spain approach the Christmas Lottery, a major tradition during the festive season.

Beyond what individuals spend, the total value of tickets sent to each region also shows how important the lottery is there. For the Canary Islands, this figure is 105.29 million euros, making it one of the regions with the lowest expected ticket sales.

Madrid again has the highest allocation, with nearly 596 million euros worth of tickets. Andalusia, Catalonia, and the Valencian Community also have high allocations, all exceeding 450 million euros.

At the other end of the scale, Melilla and Ceuta have just over 1.5 million euros in allocated tickets. La Rioja, Navarre, and the Balearic Islands also have less than 55 million euros each.

The 2025 Christmas Lottery will give out a total of 2.772 billion euros in prizes, which is 70 million euros more than last year. A total of 198 million tickets are available, made up of 198 series of 100,000 numbers each – five more series than in 2024.

The famous top prize, 'El Gordo' (The Fat One), remains 4 million euros per series. The second prize is 1,250,000 euros per series, and the third is 500,000 euros per series. There are also two fourth prizes of 200,000 euros each, and eight fifth prizes of 60,000 euros per series.

Overall, 70% of the money from ticket sales goes towards prizes. This keeps the lottery's traditional format, blending public excitement, long-standing custom, and a notable economic effect.
