'Canarias tiene el flow' Festival to Boost Island Music in Madrid
The 'Canarias tiene el flow' festival will be held in Madrid on May 14 to promote and strengthen Canarian culture through its vibrant new music scene, which already boasts millions of global listeners.
The Canary Islands' culture, both in Spain and globally, is set to get a big boost on May 14 with the 'Canarias tiene el flow' festival in Madrid. This event aims to strengthen the growing popularity of music from the islands.
The festival, held at La Riviera venue, was unveiled on Friday by Alfonso Cabello, Vice-Minister of the Presidency of the Canary Islands Government, and César Toledo, administrator of Radio Televisión Canaria. They both stressed the importance of this event as a platform to show off the region's vibrant new music scene.
The launch event, attended by festival director Santi Gutiérrez and young Canarians living in Madrid, highlighted that it's a joint effort, bringing together both public and private support. The festival will feature well-known artists from the Canarian music scene, including La Pantera, Juseph, Don Patricio, Sonia Socas, Ale Acosta, Ventura, and Julia Rodríguez. These artists have already made a big splash on global streaming platforms.
This project is part of the Canary Islands Month program and has two main goals. First, it aims to showcase a new generation of musicians in Madrid who are changing the sound of the islands, from urban styles to pop and electronic music. Second, it seeks to strengthen and protect Canarian culture through its modern musical expression. The organisers hope this initiative will create a model for promoting regional culture, aiming to make the Canary Islands a leader in showcasing its music. This music already has millions of listeners worldwide, highlighting how important this festival is.
Alongside the festival, Radio Televisión Canaria will launch a two-part documentary mini-series, also called 'Canarias tiene el flow', on its CanariasPlay platform. This series will explore the islands' new music scene and how it's reaching a global audience.
The festival's official launch took place at the Nomad Museum and received support from companies like Binter, Caja 7, Clipper, and the Casa de Canarias in Madrid. Tickets can be bought online at www.chachochacholive.com and Entradas.com.
