Canarias Dance Festival Features 'Swan,' Italy-Canary Islands Collaboration
The 24th Canarias Dentro y Fuera Dance Festival continues in Santa Cruz de Tenerife until Tuesday, featuring a diverse Saturday program with performances like Gaetano Palermo's "Swan" and multiple premieres exploring themes of human experience, technology, and nature.
This Saturday at 12:00 PM, Gaetano Palermo will present his piece "Swan" as part of the 24th Canarias Dentro y Fuera Dance Festival, which runs until Tuesday in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The performance will take place in the main hall of the city's Transport Interchange, marking the first collaboration between the Canary Islands and Italy at this year's festival.
In "Swan," the Italian artist reinterprets the classic image of the dying swan. The work explores how repetition and effort drive our actions, offering a physical and emotional look at how people today confront their own boundaries.
Also at the Interchange, the Tarab company will premiere its new theatrical piece, "...desliza." This work encourages audiences to think about how time passes and how our bodies change in the age of technology.
The afternoon events kick off at 5:00 PM with the 9th CineDanza Exhibition at TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes. Then, at 6:00 PM, two more dance performances will take place, with free entry until the venue is full. The Toni Aguilera Company will debut "Jalar," a piece that examines desire as a force that moves individuals beyond themselves. Following this, the Eszer Company will present "Unarys," described as "an introspective and spiritual journey exploring the connection between humans, nature, and the universe."
Later, at 6:45 PM, the Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) will host dance performances. Daniel Navarro will perform "El amor," and Raquel Jara Domínguez will present "Entre Maguas." Entry to MUNA is also free.
The day's events will conclude at 8:00 PM at the Teatro Victoria. Jesús Caramés will perform "Caminar lo quebrado: compartir los caminos" (Walking the Broken: Sharing Paths), a piece that draws inspiration from the work of Adelaida Arteaga Fierro, who won first prize at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Biennial of Plastic Arts. Colectivo Copresencias will then present "Persephone," exploring the contrast between light and darkness, and themes of origin and change. The evening will also feature the premiere of "Tuyo" (Yours) by Héctor Alonso Velázquez. Afterwards, Alba Tavío will lead a discussion with the audience.
The 24th Canarias Dentro y Fuera Festival is organized by Teatro Victoria and supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo, and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, along with various other public and private partners.
