The "La Quedada del Año" comedy festival has cemented its status as a major cultural phenomenon in the Canary Islands, consistently selling out large-scale arenas and confirming its next edition for April 2027.

Comedy in the Canary Islands has reached a new level of success, with local shows now regularly selling out large sports arenas. The recent 'La Quedada del Año 2026' at the Santiago Martín Pavilion in La Laguna was a prime example, drawing a full crowd of 5,000 people. Given this ongoing popularity, organizers have already confirmed the next event for April 24, 2027.

More than just a box-office hit, the event—organized by Palante Producciones and led by Darío López—showcased how far the local comedy scene has come. It celebrated the 20-year careers of stars like López, Kike Pérez, and the group Abubukaka, marking the transition of Canarian comedy from small local venues to large-scale professional productions.

The show featured a variety of monologues and sketches from performers including Omayra Cazorla, Saúl Romero, Abián Díaz, La Chirichota, Delia Santana, and Arístides Moreno. They tackled relatable topics ranging from Tenerife’s traffic problems to the climate crisis and political satire. The performers also worked to break down the barrier between stage and audience, with Abián Díaz even interacting with fans directly in the venue’s common areas.

The festival has become a significant cultural platform. For instance, the duo Las K-Narias used the stage to announce their return to music after a 14-year hiatus. The event also drew a wide range of notable figures from sports, film, and politics, including director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. With backing from the Canary Islands Government, the Cabildo of Tenerife, the La Laguna City Council, and various local businesses, the festival has become a major regional event.

Since its launch in 2024, 'La Quedada del Año' has attracted 15,000 spectators, cementing its place as the islands' premier comedy event. By announcing the date for next year’s show before the current one even ended, the organizers have demonstrated a level of stability that is rare in the arts, creating a successful space where music, social commentary, and humor come together.
