The CajaCanarias Foundation will launch the first live CD of the Canary Islands Festival of Religious Music this Tuesday. This CD is the first in what is planned to be an ongoing series.
The album features a recording of a concert held on March 13, 2025, at the church of Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This performance included the world premiere of Satim Gallus Cantabit by Spanish composer Tomás Marco, as well as Giacomo Puccini's Misa de Gloria. Gregorio Gutiérrez directed the concert.
The launch event will take place at the CajaCanarias Cultural Space in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, starting at 7:00 PM. Admission is free until the venue reaches full capacity.
Attendees will include Cristóbal de la Rosa, Director General of Cultural Innovation and Creative Industries for the Government of the Canary Islands; Gregorio Gutiérrez, the festival's orchestra conductor and artistic director; and Tomás Marco, the composer and musicologist. They will discuss the album's musical content, the live recording process, the importance of this initiative for the festival, and its future plans, among other topics.
Over its nineteen editions, the Canary Islands Festival of Religious Music has become a leading event for preserving, sharing, and promoting sacred music. It has consistently offered a program that stays true to its original vision and embraces various religious traditions. The 2025 festival presented 21 concerts in 20 towns across the Canary Islands, bringing classical music to the public in historic and culturally significant venues.
The Canary Islands Festival of Religious Music receives support from the CajaCanarias Foundation and the Dioceses of Canarias and Nivariense. Their assistance is crucial for the continued success of this cultural project.
