The CajaCanarias Foundation has launched Other Perspectives, a free film series in La Palma featuring four movies dedicated to raising awareness about hearing impairment and promoting social inclusion.

The CajaCanarias Foundation has launched a new cultural initiative in La Palma designed to raise awareness about functional diversity through film. The series, titled Other Perspectives, features four movies that explore the experiences and identities of people with hearing impairments.

The screenings will take place at the foundation’s Cultural Space in the island's capital. The series begins this Wednesday with the 1986 film Children of a Lesser God, directed by Randa Haines and starring William Hurt and Marlee Matlin, which examines the emotional connection between a teacher and a deaf woman. The program continues throughout July with CODA on the 8th, The Specials on the 22nd, and Sorda on the 29th.

The foundation selected these films to highlight the power of cinema as a tool for breaking down social stigmas and promoting inclusion. By showcasing these stories, the organization aims to provide both entertainment and a space for the public to reflect on the rights of people with functional diversity and the accessibility challenges still present in society today.

All screenings start at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free, though seating is limited to the venue's capacity. For more information on the films, you can visit the CajaCanarias Foundation’s website.
