The CajaCanarias Foundation is accepting applications until July 30th for the Excellentia Jerónimo Saavedra scholarship, which provides up to 40,000 euros to support academic research into the history of Freemasonry in the Canary Islands.

The CajaCanarias Foundation has opened applications for the second round of the Excellentia Jerónimo Saavedra scholarship. This initiative, which offers up to 40,000 euros in funding, supports academic research into the history of Freemasonry in the Canary Islands. The program was established last year to honor the public service and intellectual legacy of the late Canarian politician.

The foundation is looking for projects that explore the influence of Masonic lodges from historical, sociological, or cultural perspectives. The goal is to better understand the political and social impact of these organizations on the islands, as well as to help preserve their documentary and material history. This research aims to bring a more rigorous, academic focus to a subject that has often been overlooked in official historical records.

Applications must be submitted through the foundation’s website by July 30th. The scholarship is open to researchers who were born in or currently reside in the Canary Islands and have a strong background in the humanities or social sciences. Selected projects will be carried out throughout 2027.

A specialized committee will review all proposals, focusing on their methodology, innovation, and potential academic impact. The foundation hopes to fund research that offers a fresh perspective on Canarian Freemasonry through interdisciplinary or comparative studies. Full details and application requirements are available on the CajaCanarias Foundation website.
