CajaCanarias Foundation Hosts Dual Musical Events Featuring Charlie Cunningham and Benito Cabrera
The CajaCanarias Foundation is hosting two musical events this Saturday, featuring a performance by British singer-songwriter Charlie Cunningham in Tenerife and a chamber music concert by timple player Benito Cabrera in La Palma.
This Saturday, the CajaCanarias Foundation is hosting two events that highlight its commitment to bringing international talent to the islands while celebrating local musical heritage.
At 8:00 p.m., British singer-songwriter Charlie Cunningham will perform at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Cultural Space. Cunningham’s music is deeply connected to Spain; he developed his signature fingerpicking guitar style while living in Seville. His unique sound blends folk with minimalist influences, shaped significantly by his time spent immersed in flamenco culture. Tickets are available on the Foundation’s website, with a 25% discount for members.
Meanwhile, in Santa Cruz de La Palma, the Foundation is hosting the finale of its "Chamber at the Foundation" series. This project, run in partnership with the Tenerife Symphony, aims to bring intimate chamber music performances to a wider audience across the islands.
The closing concert, "Islands and Strings," features renowned timple player Benito Cabrera. The performance explores the blend of traditional and classical music by pairing the iconic Canary Islands timple with a string quartet. The program includes works by Luigi Boccherini, an 18th-century composer who spent time at the Spanish court, creating a bridge between European classical traditions and local island sounds. Admission to this event is free until the venue reaches capacity.
