CajaCanarias Foundation Elects Orán Cury President, Rodríguez Ramallo VP

Humberto Orán Cury has been elected as the new president of the CajaCanarias Foundation, with Iván Rodríguez Ramallo named vice-president.

The CajaCanarias Foundation held a special board meeting last weekend to choose a new president. Margarita Ramos, whose term was ending, had been president until then. The board elected Humberto Orán Cury (born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1954) as the new president. Iván Rodríguez Ramallo (born in Los Realejos, 1978) will serve as the foundation's vice-president.

Humberto Orán began studying music theory, violin, and viola at the Conservatory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, his hometown. He later moved to Madrid for advanced viola studies at the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music. With a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, he went to Freiburg, Germany, to continue his viola studies at the Hochschule für Musik with Adelheid Schäfer and Ulrich Koch.

Orán Cury was the principal violist for the Madrid Symphony Orchestra and the Reina Sofía Chamber Orchestra, which he founded in 1984. He also served as artistic advisor to the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts at Alfonso X El Sabio University, and cultural advisor to Mundo en Armonía, an organization founded and led by Princess Irene of Greece. Additionally, he was a board member for the Alberto Ginastera Foundation (New York) and the Spanish Swiss Music Foundation (Zurich).

He is the executive president of Musiespaña, a company he founded in 1989 that represents conductors, singers, and instrumentalists in Spain. He also chairs the Reina Sofía Chamber Orchestra Foundation, which has Queen Sofía as its honorary president, and is a trustee of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation (Spain). He is a member of the Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts of San Miguel Arcángel (Racba) and the Academic Council of Berg Institute. His awards include the Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, the European Gold Medal for Merit in Work, and the Gold Star for Professional Excellence (IEP).

Iván Rodríguez Ramallo, a former athlete, competed in the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games in the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay. He holds a degree in Economics and a Master's in Communication and Public Relations from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He currently works in the International Relations and New Business Unit of the Sant Cugat High Performance Center in Barcelona.

He is also part of the management team for the International Association of High Performance Centers and teaches on the MBA in Sport Management program at Alfonso X El Sabio University and at the EADA business school.
