The CajaCanarias Foundation in Santa Cruz de La Palma is hosting Ach Guañac. Geographies of the Bond, a major exhibition celebrating the multidisciplinary work and social activism of Canarian artist Luis Morera through July 18.

The life and work of Luis Morera, a key figure in modern Canarian culture, is the focus of a major new exhibition in Santa Cruz de La Palma. Titled Ach Guañac. Geographies of the Bond, the showcase at the CajaCanarias Foundation cultural space is more than a retrospective; it is a statement on how art and social activism can work together.

The exhibition features fifty pieces spanning Morera’s diverse talents, including painting, sculpture, architecture, and music. It is open to the public for free until July 18. Visitors can view the collection Tuesday through Friday (morning and afternoon shifts) and on Saturday mornings. The project was made possible through a collaboration with the Tijarafe City Council, with additional support from Natán Teutsch and insights from writers Elsa López and Juan Jesús Armas Marcelo.

A highlight of the show is the debut of the triptych that shares the exhibition's name, as well as a tribute to the legacy of the musical group Taburiente. Curator Julia Morera explains that the goal is to share the artist’s worldview, showing how his work serves as a way to engage with and respond to life on the islands.

At the opening, Morera reflected on his time in Madrid, where his political activism against the dictatorship shaped his belief in the importance of a unique Canarian cultural identity. He hopes to pass this message on to younger generations, emphasizing the value of perseverance and standing up for one's ideals. Further details about the exhibition are available on the CajaCanarias Foundation website.
