Cabildo Invests €937K to Restore Tegueste's Casa Sansó
The Cabildo of Tenerife is investing 937,768 euros to restore the historic Casa Sansó in Tegueste, with work expected to conclude in September 2026 to preserve heritage and expand cultural offerings.
The Cabildo of Tenerife, through its departments of Culture, Museums, and Sports, is investing a total of 937,768 euros to restore Casa Sansó. This historic building is located in the center of Tegueste. Work began last July and is expected to finish in September 2026.
Officials explained that 468,884 euros was spent on the house's restoration during the 2025 fiscal year. Construcciones Felipe Méndez, SL, is carrying out the work, and a similar amount has been set aside in the 2026 budget.
The project is expected to take fourteen months to complete, and almost 20% of the work is now finished.
Vice President Lope Afonso said that restoring Casa Sansó shows a strong dedication to preserving historical heritage and making it available for residents and visitors. He added, "Bringing unique places like this back to life helps us offer more to tourists, connecting them with the cultural identity and historical value of our towns."
The Minister of Culture, José Carlos Acha, pointed out that restoring this important building will complete Tegueste's cultural offerings and expand the Cabildo of Tenerife's network of cultural venues. He stressed that heritage restoration is a key way to revitalize cultural life.
Casa Sansó, found at Plaza de San Marcos street, number 18, was bought in July 2009. It was intended to host smaller cultural events like poetry readings, small concerts, and storytelling, as well as to feature a small themed garden.
The Cabildo noted that the building was in very poor condition. This is why the island council launched this major project: to ensure it can be used for cultural activities and preserved for many years to come.
