The Cabildo Bookstore in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting a diverse July program featuring literary tributes, historical research presentations, and cultural discussions to establish the venue as a hub for Canarian intellectual life.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s cultural scene is heating up this July with a packed schedule at the Cabildo Bookstore. The institution aims to turn the space into a hub for intellectual debate and local history, offering a program that goes beyond simple book promotions to explore the literary and political memory of the Canary Islands.

The series kicks off this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. with a tribute to Alfonso García-Ramos, the featured author for this year’s Canary Islands Letters Day. His daughter, Liti García-Ramos, will join the inaugural session of the center’s new Book Club to discuss his work, Guad.

Research remains a key focus throughout the month. On July 7, historian Aarón León will present Julio Yanes’ study on the evolution of island journalism from 1758 to 2025. Later, on July 21, Zebensui López Trujillo will discuss the life and work of Antonio Cubillo.

The program also highlights contemporary issues and creative arts. On July 14, the editorial team behind Aguaviva magazine—Ana Marante González, Andrea Sánchez Villamandos, María Gómez García, and Sophia Hidalgo Hernández—will launch their summer issue, which explores the theme of territory. On July 28, poet and researcher Antonio M. Piñero will join Elena Villamandos for the presentation of her poetry collection, Cancionero triste y otras piezas eróticas.

Oral traditions take center stage in the "Literary Café: The Rhapsodist's Hour" series, featuring performances by Ernesto Rodríguez Abad (July 9), Cecilia Domínguez Luis (July 16), and Daniel Bernal (July 30). Additionally, the Canary Academy of the Language will host a special recital dedicated to Pedro García Cabrera on July 23.

The month concludes on July 29, when the Book Club returns for a session on the novel El sepulcro vacío, featuring an appearance by its author, Cecilia Domínguez Luis.
