The Cabildo Bookstore has launched a diverse June program featuring author presentations, poetry recitals, and historical discussions to transform the venue into a vibrant cultural hub for civic engagement.

The Cabildo Bookstore, managed by the public company Ideco, has launched a June program designed to turn the shop into a vibrant cultural hub for the archipelago. According to island officials, the Department of Culture aims to transform the bookstore into a space for debate and civic engagement. Councilor José Carlos Acha noted that the goal is to give the bookstore a deeper social and reflective purpose.

The month-long calendar focuses on contemporary literature and critical thinking. Events begin this afternoon with author María del Mar Rodríguez, who will present her books La prestamista, La tuerta, and La viuda blanca. On Wednesday, the bookstore will launch its new book club, coinciding with the final session of Víctor Conde’s literary workshop.

Poetry and historical research are central themes of the program. A series of "Literary Café" recitals kicks off this Thursday with Isabel Expósito’s A instancias del agua. This will be followed by a two-voice session with Antonio Martín Piñero and Guillermo Oliva on June 12th, and a closing recital on June 19th featuring Ruth Iraida R.H., Elisa Anceaume, and Angie Hernández. Additionally, on June 18th, Fermín Higuera will discuss the creative process behind his poetry collection, La carne de las hojas.

The program also highlights local history and cultural memory. On June 15th, Thenesoya V. Martín de la Nuez will present a talk on the novels of Alfonso García-Ramos, a significant figure in Canarian intellectual life. Further exploring local identity, researcher Domingo Garí will present La rebelión de los guanches de Anaga on June 9th.

The schedule concludes with two book launches: Cristi Cruz will present Háblame del mar de leva on June 23rd, and Andrés Ordóñez will close the month on June 30th with his work Naufragios. By showcasing both established authors and new voices, the Cabildo hopes to establish the bookstore as a key destination for literary creation and open dialogue.
