CAAM Launches Second Season of 'CAAMclásico' Chamber Music Series

Museums across Spain are increasingly hosting chamber music performances, a trend designed to bring new audiences to classical music by blending different art forms. As part of this movement, the Atlantic Center of Modern Art (CAAM) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is launching the second season of its "CAAMclásico" series this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

The season opens with a performance by Tenerife-born pianist Miguel Ángel Castro. Having trained in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Madrid, and Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Castro has become a well-known figure in the Spanish concert scene. For his opening recital, he has curated a program dedicated to the Russian tradition, featuring works by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, and Rachmaninoff.

Cellist Ángel Luis Quintana, the series’ artistic director, has decided to put the spotlight on the piano this year. Quintana, who performs with the Canary Islands Chamber Orchestra and maintains a busy international teaching schedule, has organized a series of concerts running through November.

Following the launch, the schedule includes:

• September 23: A four-hand piano recital by José Luis Castillo and Ignacio Clemente, featuring music by Ravel, Brahms, and Schubert.
• October 28: A chamber music performance by cellist Ülker Tümer and pianist Miguel Ángel Ortega, covering works from Beethoven to Clara Schumann.
• November 18: The season finale, Shadows of Romanticism, featuring flutist Charina Quintana and pianist José María Curbelo. They will perform pieces by Mel Bonis, Sofia Gubaidulina, Carlota Garriga, and Amanda Röntgen-Maier.

All performances begin at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free, though seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
