Buenavista Mobility Plan Targets Masca's Parking and Road Issues
Buenavista del Norte's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan identifies Masca's poor roads and parking as major transport challenges, proposing pedestrian-focused improvements and better parking management, but notes the local council cannot modify the main access road.
The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) confirms a long-standing problem: the poor state of roads and parking in Masca is one of the biggest transport challenges for the Buenavista del Norte area.
The plan describes the village as "one of the most saturated areas," where limited parking quickly fills up because of the many tourists. To tackle this, the SUMP suggests better parking management and encouraging vehicles to move through more efficiently.
Other proposals for the famous village include temporary, low-cost improvements. These involve adding railings, benches, tactile paving (for visually impaired pedestrians), fresh paint, and plants in worn-out spots to make walking easier. The main goal is to give more space back to pedestrians and reduce car traffic in central Buenavista del Norte. Later, permanent work is planned, such as wider sidewalks and accessible pathways.
However, the TF-436 road, which leads to Masca, is not managed by the local island council. This means the Buenavista del Norte City Council cannot make any changes to it.
