Buenavista del Norte Tenders €4 Million Project to Revive Local Cinema-Theater
Buenavista del Norte has put a four-million-euro project out to tender to rebuild its long-awaited cinema-theater, aiming to restore a vital cultural hub for the Isla Baja region within 18 months.
Buenavista del Norte is moving forward with plans for a new cinema-theater, signaling a fresh start for cultural infrastructure in the Isla Baja region. The City Council has put the project out to tender for four million euros, with an 18-month timeline for completion. This step aims to end four years of inactivity at the Calle La Alhóndiga site, where construction stalled in 2022 due to contractual disputes.
The new plan involves a complete reset. Workers will first need to demolish the existing foundations and clear the site to make way for a new structure. The design features steel and reinforced concrete, incorporating sustainable elements like solar thermal energy, along with modern acoustic, safety, and stage technology. However, some details—such as the final seating capacity, stage layout, and specific sound equipment—have yet to be finalized in the tender documents.
This progress follows a complex financial restructuring supported by the Cabildo de Tenerife. To ensure the project remains viable, the island’s government has extended the funding plan through 2029. This is a vital investment for the Daute region, as the original building served as the area’s primary indoor cultural venue for 60 years before its demolition in 2019.
Mayor Eva García and her administration have highlighted the project’s importance for the area’s artistic and educational growth. By restarting the project from the ground up, the council hopes to move past previous legal and administrative hurdles. The goal is to restore a space that was once the heart of local public life and fill the significant cultural void left by its closure.
