Buenavista del Norte Bus Station Extends Operating Hours Following Resident Campaign
The Buenavista del Norte bus station has extended its daily operating hours to 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. following a successful resident-led campaign to improve accessibility in the Isla Baja region.
The Buenavista del Norte bus station has extended its operating hours, resolving a long-standing issue that hindered travel in the Isla Baja region. As reported by El Día, the station is now open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., ending the previous restriction that limited access to weekday office hours.
This change follows a successful campaign by local residents, who collected nearly 500 signatures with the support of Titsa union representatives Roberto Rodríguez and Sergio González. The group highlighted the difficulties faced by passengers—particularly those with reduced mobility—who were often left exposed to poor weather during evenings and weekends. The threat of public protests proved effective, prompting the local council and the transport company to coordinate a permanent solution.
The situation in Buenavista highlights a common issue in rural transport: the gap between modern infrastructure and daily service. Despite a major renovation just two years ago, the station remained underutilized, leaving one of Tenerife’s most modern facilities largely inaccessible. Mayor Eva García noted that this is only the first step, as the council continues to negotiate with the Island Council to improve connections to key locations like the municipal swimming pool.
By normalizing these hours, the station now provides reliable access to essential facilities like restrooms and offers a safer environment for passengers who rely on public transport. Local officials hope that by using the station responsibly, the community will ensure these extended hours remain a permanent part of daily life in Isla Baja.
