British Cyclist Murder Probe After Arona Hit-and-Run
Police are investigating the death of a young British man, Harry, who died while cycling in Arona on December 2nd, as a potential murder rather than an accidental hit-and-run.
Police are investigating if a young British man was murdered while cycling in Arona. A car driver reportedly hit the cyclist and drove off. After initial checks, officers believe it wasn't just an accidental hit-and-run.
The victim has been identified as Harry. His death has deeply shocked residents in areas like Las Galletas, Costa del Silencio, and Las Rosas.
Initially, Arona Local Police's accident investigation team handled the case. But because there were signs it wasn't a typical road accident, they passed the investigation to the Civil Guard. Given the nature of the incident, the Civil Guard's serious crime unit (the Organic Unit of Judicial Police) is now leading the investigation. Officers are working to understand exactly what happened. So far, no arrests have been made.
Near the scene, Harry's family and friends have left tributes, including wreaths, flowers, candles, and a photograph. One emotional message left for the teenager reads: 'I love you forever wee bro'. Harry was reportedly a fan of Liverpool Football Club. A team jersey was left at the tribute site, tied to a palm tree in a garden.
The incident happened late on Tuesday, December 2nd, on the TF-652 road, which links Las Chafiras (San Miguel de Abona) with Las Galletas on the Arona coast. Local police reports indicate that a car driver allegedly hit the cyclist at kilometer 6 of that road, near the La Estrella neighborhood.
The Canary Islands emergency services received the alert at 8:12 PM. Emergency services, including two ambulances from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC), Arona local police, Civil Guard traffic officers, and road maintenance workers, were dispatched. Upon arrival, paramedics confirmed the young man had died from his severe injuries.
