The 3rd El Patio Performing Arts Festival in Tenerife is currently showcasing the Brazilian play Caetés, el silencio y otras ramas by Compañía Teatro Avatar, exploring the unique culture of Brazil's northeastern sertão.

The 3rd El Patio Performing Arts Festival is currently underway in Tenerife, running from this month until February. It brings together theatre companies from Spain, Brazil, and Venezuela. From Friday until today, Saturday, the festival is featuring Caetés, el silencio y otras ramas (Caetés, Silence and Other Branches). This play is by the Brazilian company Compañía Teatro Avatar (Núcleo Caatinga). Performances are held in La Laguna, at Zálatta Espacio Escénico (Carretera Monte de las Mercedes, 119), starting at 8:30 PM.

The play's creators explain that its central idea is to highlight a strong sense of place and belonging to Brazil's northeastern region. It shines a light on the unique culture of the sertão (a semi-arid inland region) and the surrounding caatinga (a type of dry shrubland), featuring characters who live in a difficult social and political environment.

The synopsis explains that the play draws inspiration from this "Gracilian universe." It incorporates elements such as armorial music, the sounds of the regional rabeca (a type of fiddle), the musical speech of the sertão, and the distinct colors and objects of this culture. The aim is to create a poetic scene that is at times dramatic and at times lyrical.

Later, on January 31st, the Canarian company Benayga Taller de Teatro will perform Ánima. Lorca.
