Brazilian choreographer Poliana Lima will present her solo dance piece "Estudio para una extracción," exploring the body and identity through movement and live music, for free at Galería BIBLI in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on November 15th.
Poliana Lima, a choreographer and performer from Brazil, will be presenting her solo dance piece, "Estudio para una extracción," on November 15th at Galería BIBLI in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The performance, located at C/ San Francisco Javier, 15, will feature live music by Pablo Sánchez. There will be two showings of the 20-minute piece, one at 6:00 PM and another at 7:30 PM. Admission is free, but space is limited.
"Estudio para una extracción" grew out of Lima's earlier work, "Oro Negro." It's described as a moving portrait that examines the visible and hidden aspects of the body and identity. The piece explores a world of senses and poetry where dreams, fantasy, and personal feelings blend to reveal what lies beneath the surface. Lima uses the metaphor of excavation, suggesting a process of searching and uncovering. Each movement is like a tool that shifts, unearths, and exposes different parts of our being.
The performance views the body as both an instrument and a landscape to be dug into. It's a space where elements often pushed aside or judged by mainstream views come to light: the fragility of the body, its temporary nature, female sensuality driven by a woman's desires, and the everyday as part of a shared physical memory. Lima, as the performer, navigates these layers to encourage the audience to consider a body that is changing and opening up to new possibilities.
Galería Bibli, in partnership with LAV Canarias, is using this event to create a platform for contemporary art and conversation between artists and the public. This event brings a blend of dance, experimentation, and live music to the city in an intimate setting, offering a close and sensory experience.
This free event is part of "Esto no es un FestiLAV," a series of live art events happening from September through December in various locations across the island. The aim is to make culture more accessible through less commercial and more spread-out events. This initiative is supported by Cultura Gobierno de Canarias, INAEM, and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council.
