Boreal Festival Returns to Los Silos for 19th Edition

The Boreal Festival returns to Los Silos this September for its 19th edition, once again proving itself as a leader in bringing culture to the Canary Islands. This year’s program is packed with visual arts, live music, and celebrations of local literature.

The festival’s art program features internationally acclaimed Portuguese artist Diogo Machado, known as "Add Fuel." From September 14 to 27, the Pérez Enríquez Hall in the former Convent of San Sebastián will host his solo exhibition. His work, which blends traditional Portuguese ceramic aesthetics with modern urban culture, will be the focus of an artistic residency designed to inspire critical thinking.

The music lineup spans two days, September 18 and 19, featuring twenty different acts. Friday’s performers include BCUC, Hempress Sativa with Paolo Baldini Dub Files, The Neighborhood Kids, El Veneno Crew, Aïta Mon Amour, Renata Flores, Rubio, The Queen of Bass, Pleito, and the debut of Jable, a project by Jela and Cristina Mahelo. Saturday’s stage will host Daddy G (of Massive Attack), Aterciopelados, Imarhan, Throes + The Shine, Fuensanta, Josyara, Candeleros, La Terrorista del Sabor, and Xerach. Since its start in 2008—inspired by the recovery of a sei whale skeleton on the Los Silos coast—the festival has remained dedicated to sustainability and protecting the local environment. This year, the Boreal Prize 2026 will be awarded to writer Andrea Abreu, honoring her work in highlighting rural life and the island landscape.

By pedestrianizing the historic town center during the event, the festival continues to model how cultural management can balance entertainment with sustainable development. After nearly two decades, Boreal remains a vital space for community and culture in the Canary Islands.
