Body Recovered in Difficult Rescue Operation Along Tenerife Coastline
A 44-year-old man was recovered by helicopter from a remote, rocky coastline in Tenerife on Sunday after emergency services faced significant terrain challenges reaching the site.
Rugged coastal terrain once again made a rescue operation difficult in Tenerife on Sunday, August 2, 2026. According to the Canary Islands' emergency services (CECOES 112), a 44-year-old man was found dead along the Santa Cruz de Tenerife coastline, but the remote location made reaching him a challenge.
The alert was raised at 9:21 a.m. at Playa del Muerto, an area known for being difficult to reach by land. Because of the challenging geography, the Tenerife Fire Consortium requested aerial support to recover the body. Once the National Police authorized the operation, a helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) was deployed, successfully lifting the body from the rocky shoreline.
Local Police assisted with the operation, while the National Police managed the judicial procedures. Officers stayed with the deceased until authorities gave the order to remove the body. This incident highlights the logistical difficulties emergency teams often face along the Canary Islands' coast, where steep cliffs and changing tides frequently complicate rescue efforts.
