Body Recovered From Waters Off Tenerife Coast

Emergency services in the Canary Islands were called into action again this Monday after a body was discovered in the water near Santiago del Teide, in southern Tenerife. According to the Efe news agency, the rescue operation began shortly after 2:00 p.m. following a report from a member of the public who spotted the body about 300 meters offshore.

Lifeguards on a jet ski reached the scene first and transferred the body to a Maritime Rescue vessel, the Salvamar Menkalinan. The vessel then brought the body to the port of Playa San Juan, where a judicial commission arrived to oversee the recovery and begin forensic procedures.

While the investigation is still in its early stages, the Civil Guard believes the deceased may have been a foreign resident of the island. Official confirmation of the person's identity is pending further testing, which is expected to be completed in the coming hours.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of maritime safety in the archipelago, where rescue teams and security forces must work closely to monitor coastal areas and recreational sea activities. When a foreign national is involved in such an incident, authorities typically follow standard consular communication protocols as part of the legal process.
