Tenerife filmmaker David Baute's multi-award-winning documentary "Black Butterflies," which explores women's migration due to the climate crisis, has been pre-selected for the Academy Awards' Best Animated Feature Film category.

"Black Butterflies," a documentary film directed by Tenerife filmmaker David Baute (Garachico, 1974), has been pre-selected for the Academy Awards' Best Animated Feature Film category. It is one of 34 titles on the preliminary list.

The final list of nominated films will be announced on January 22. "Black Butterflies" might also be considered for other categories. The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Since its premiere, "Black Butterflies" has already won several awards, including the Goya, Forqué, Gaudí, Platino, and Quirino. The film tells the story of three women from different parts of the world who are forced to migrate because of the climate crisis.
