Binter Adds Tenerife Route from Badajoz After Gran Canaria Success
Binter Canarias will inaugurate direct flights from Badajoz to Tenerife on December 1st, building on the success of its existing route to Gran Canaria.
The Canary Island airline, Binter, will begin direct flights from Badajoz Airport to Tenerife on December 1st. This follows the success of their route to Gran Canaria, which started from Badajoz in April.
According to Binter's commercial director, Miguel Ángel Suárez Cabrera, the Gran Canaria route has been well-received. He noted that Canarian passengers, who are already familiar with the airline, were the first to use the service, and then it became popular with other travelers. He also mentioned that Binter relies on positive word-of-mouth due to the quality of their service.
Binter is the leading airline in the Canary Islands, operating around 250 flights daily between the islands. They use their ATR 72 aircraft to provide frequent connections for residents.
Besides their strong presence within the Canary Islands, Binter has expanded its routes in recent years. They now fly to 19 destinations in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, as well as 10 destinations in Africa and Portugal, carrying a total of about six million passengers annually.
Badajoz became one of these new destinations on April 1st, with twice-weekly flights to Gran Canaria. According to AENA data, the route has carried over 10,400 passengers, with an average occupancy rate of 75%.
Miguel Ángel Suárez stated that approximately 70% of the passengers on the Badajoz-Gran Canaria route are from the Canary Islands, while 30% are from Extremadura. He also emphasized the company's commitment to maintaining the route long-term, saying they rarely discontinue routes once they've started.
Binter intends to continue the Badajoz-Gran Canaria route year-round if it remains successful. Flights are currently available for purchase until the end of October 2026, allowing ample time to assess the route's performance.
Encouraged by the success of the Gran Canaria connection, Binter is launching a second route from Badajoz Airport to Tenerife. This route will begin on December 1st, with two weekly flights in each direction on Mondays and Fridays. Tickets are already available for purchase on Binter's website.
Suárez explained that passengers from mainland Spain flying to Gran Canaria or Tenerife can connect to other islands for free on Binter's inter-island flights. These flights operate daily between all Canary Island airports at no extra cost.
He added that connections to Lanzarote or Fuerteventura are typically made from Gran Canaria, while connections to La Palma are made from Tenerife due to geographical locations.
The new routes also offer Canarian residents the opportunity to explore different parts of mainland Spain at reduced prices, thanks to their resident discount.
Binter is launching special offers for the new island routes, hoping that people will try their service and recommend it to others.
Suárez emphasized Binter's focus on providing a high-quality service to stand out from other airlines. Their Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, used on national routes, offer more legroom and a two-by-two seating configuration.
Additionally, passengers can enjoy complimentary hand luggage and a gourmet snack featuring Canarian products during the flight.
This "Canarian way" of traveling is central to Binter's identity. The airline was founded in 1989 as a regional airline under Iberia. In 2002, it was acquired by a group of Canarian investors and began expanding its routes to various destinations in mainland Spain, Africa, and Portugal.
