In Arico, a tender was announced for the first phase of the wastewater treatment system modernization in Abades, worth 186,643 euros, which includes the replacement of pipes and the upgrading of the treatment plant.

The city of Arico has announced a tender for the first phase of upgrading the wastewater treatment system in Abades. Applications can be submitted from last Thursday until October 8. An initial €186,643 has been allocated for the initial works, with the total project cost being €500,765.

What are the plans? The pipes that carry wastewater to the treatment plant will be replaced, water meters will be installed, and the plant itself will be modernized to improve its operation. The project was developed by Ceire Servicios de Ingeniería, Control e Inspección on behalf of the city council. Part of the work still needs to be approved by the Canary Islands Coastal Zone Management. To save time, the city council decided to split the project into two parts.

The first phase has already been approved, and a tender has been announced for it. These works do not require coastal zone approval, so they can be started immediately – upgrading the treatment plant and replacing pipes. Meanwhile, the paperwork for the second phase will be processed.

Future plans include upgrading the pumping station, installing new treatment equipment, improving electrical panels, building an underground reservoir, installing sampling and water measurement points, and providing convenient access to the station for maintenance and safe operation.

The Mayor of Arico, Olivia Delgado, said: "With this tender, we are starting an important project for Abades. It is not just infrastructure, it is about caring for the environment, the safety of people and the future of this coastal area."
