Timple virtuoso Benito Cabrera will launch his new album, "Islópolis," a fusion of Canarian tradition and global influences, with a concert at Teatro Leal this Friday, marking the start of his island tour.
This Friday at 8:30 PM, timple player Benito Cabrera will launch his new album, Islópolis, with a concert at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna. This show kicks off his tour across the Canary Islands, celebrating a musical project that mixes tradition with new ideas, and creativity with local identity.
Joining Cabrera on stage will be Tomás Fariña on guitar, Ehedey Sosa on bass, Pablo Díaz on flute and pito herreño, and Sergio García de la Nuez on percussion and vocals. Also appearing will be singers Árgel Campos and Cristina Ramos, who feature on the album with the songs "Memorias" and "Una habanera para Amaro."
At the concert, Benito Cabrera will play the songs from Islópolis. The album turns island life into an emotional landscape that's open to the world. It was produced by Multitrack.
The album features just over 13 tracks, all created by Cabrera. He hopes to share with the audience "a sonic map of the Canary Islands and a shared vision of life, made of sounds, feelings, and journeys both ways."
Islópolis brings together new songs by Benito Cabrera with fresh takes on traditional tunes. This mix creates a vibrant sound that celebrates belonging in a modern and welcoming way. The melodies and songs come from the island experience but reach out to a global audience.
Benito Cabrera, a significant figure in bringing Canarian music to the world stage with 14 albums already released, sees Islópolis as a universal concept. He believes it highlights the Canary Islands as open places where people have always had a unique way of life. This is thanks to their location, which has naturally led to connections with different cultures, memories, and emotions from around the world.
