Barrios Orquestados launches its winter concert series across Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria, featuring over 600 participants from various neighborhoods in free music education performances with guest artists.

Barrios Orquestados is kicking off its winter concert series, bringing together 14 orchestras and 10 choirs with over 600 participants. These musicians, including children and their families, come from various neighborhoods across Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria.

The tour starts today, Sunday, at 7:00 PM at the Paraninfo of the University of La Laguna. Performances will feature students from Ofra, Añaza, and La Cuesta, alongside a choir made up of family members.

Madrid-born musician Rupatrupa, who has been based in Tenerife since the start of his music career, will be the guest artist. Tickets are donation-based at 10 euros and can be bought on the Paraninfo's website. This concert series, along with a crowdfunding campaign, helps support the project's ongoing work. Barrios Orquestados provides free music education and instrument loans to children and families.

In June, the La Laguna City Council showed its support for Barrios Orquestados, aiming to ensure the project's future and reach more communities within the municipality that have greater social and educational needs.

The City Council's statement highlighted that Barrios Orquestados, established in La Cuesta in 2015 and later in Finca España, has become a significant educational and artistic initiative. It offers free music education, instrument rentals, and a unique approach that promotes togetherness, discipline, and emotional growth through art. The La Laguna City Council has been financially supporting Barrios Orquestados annually since 2017.

The musical journey continues on Fuerteventura this Sunday, November 23rd, at 7:00 PM at the Insular Auditorium in Puerto del Rosario. This concert is supported by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.

Joining students and families from El Matorral and El Charco will be Julia Rodríguez, a well-known Fuerteventura singer. Recently nominated for Best New Artist at the Canarian Music Awards, she will perform her blend of Canarian roots music with modern sounds. Tickets are available now on the Cultura Fuerteventura website.

The third concert is scheduled for Lanzarote on Sunday, November 30th, at 7:00 PM at the Municipal Theater of San Bartolomé, with the support of the City Council. This event will feature music by Gran Canaria urban artist and poet OM Domínguez. He will perform alongside timple player Derque Martín, as well as students and family members from the Argana and Altavista neighborhoods. Tickets can be purchased on the EcoEntradas website.

To wrap up the winter tour, a concert will take place on Gran Canaria on Sunday, December 7th, at 6:00 PM at the Agüimes Auditorium, with the collaboration of the City Council.

Guest artist Sylvie Hernández will bring a vibrant and contemporary style of Latin American folklore. She will perform with students and family members from six locations across the neighborhoods of Tamaraceite, Guanarteme, Ciudad Alta, Risco de San Nicolás, Cono Sur, La Isleta, Jinámar, and Montaña Los Vélez. Ticket sales for this event will be available soon on the Barrios Orquestados website.
