Barcelona Man Arrested for Systematic Online Extortion of Minors
Spanish police have arrested a 21-year-old man in Barcelona for the systematic sexual extortion and harassment of at least eight minors across the country.
Cybercrime targeting minors is back in the spotlight following a recent National Police operation. A 21-year-old man was arrested in Santa Coloma de Cervelló, Barcelona, highlighting how sexual predators continue to exploit the digital world to coerce and extort vulnerable teenagers.
The investigation began in Santa Cruz de Tenerife after the parents of a 14-year-old girl reported that she was being systematically harassed. The victim explained that the perpetrator had used threats to force her into sending sexually explicit material. By working together, police units in Tenerife and Barcelona were able to track down the suspect.
A forensic search of the suspect’s electronic devices revealed the true scale of his actions: investigators identified at least seven other minor victims who were subjected to similar blackmail. This is further supported by an earlier complaint from a 15-year-old girl in A Coruña, confirming a pattern of repeated criminal behavior.
The situation is particularly concerning given the suspect’s history. Earlier this year, regional police (Mossos d’Esquadra) intervened after he was found near a school in Sant Boi de Llobregat, resulting in a restraining order. His repeat offenses—which include sexual assault, coercion, and corruption of minors—have raised serious questions about the effectiveness of current protective measures and the urgent need for better digital safety for children.
This case emphasizes the importance of reporting crimes early and the need for specialized police units to combat cybercrime. Because the internet allows these predators to operate across borders, authorities are now working to determine the full extent of the suspect's activities and ensure he faces appropriate legal consequences.
