The "Canary Sports 2025" awards were presented in the Canary Islands, recognizing 11 athletes, coaches, and organizations for their achievements.

On Friday, the "Canary Sports 2025" awards were presented in the Canary Islands. With this award, the local authorities recognized 11 athletes, coaches, teams, and organizations for their achievements.

The ceremony took place in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It was conducted by the Vice-President of the region, Manuel Domínguez, and the head of the Island Council, Rosa Dávila.

Here are the award recipients in various categories:

  • Armide Soliveres (player from Gran Canaria) – Best athlete in individual sports.
  • Heidelberg team – Best team.
  • Marta Mansito (yachtsman from Tenerife) – Best young athlete.
  • Carmelo Pérez (world champion in para-triathlon) – Best athlete with a disability.
  • Marta Mangue – Best female athlete.
  • Canary Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities – For promoting sports among people with disabilities.
  • Domingo Álvarez (sports journalist, posthumously) and Carla Suárez (tennis player) – Honorary awards.

Also recognized were those who develop traditional sports and games:

  • Doctor Antonio Ramos Gordillo – For researching and teaching local sports (Pedro Molina Award).
  • Manuel Jesús García Fuentes – For the development of these sports.
  • Pila de Garrote Ichasagua – For involving women in traditional sports (Equality Award).

The Vice-President of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, said that these awards are not only a recognition of the athletes' efforts but also a source of pride in them. He added that their stories inspire the younger generation.

The Sports Councillor, Poli Suárez, noted that Canary sports have a great future. Behind every award are years of training and sacrifice, but also great dreams.

Rosa Dávila emphasized that sport is not only competition but also discipline, perseverance, and an important part of society. She congratulated all the award winners, especially those who work for equality.

The ceremony was very emotional and vibrant. It was opened by acrobats and dancers.

The hosts were journalists Paloma del Río and Manoj Daswani. During the ceremony, videos about Canary sports were shown. The evening ended with a performance by the singer St. Pedro.

14-year-old yachtsman Marta Mansito became the youngest laureate of the award. She has already won the world championship three times and has many other awards. She is currently preparing for the Olympic Games.

Domingo Álvarez, a well-known sports journalist, was remembered at the ceremony. He worked on the radio for many years and covered important sporting events. His voice will forever remain in the memory of the Canarians.

Pila de Garrote Ichasagua received the award for actively involving women in the traditional sport of garrote wrestling. Thanks to her, this sport has become more open and inclusive.
