Authorities in Tenerife are warning visitors to avoid the hazardous La Garañona beach due to unstable cliffs and dangerous sea conditions, urging the public to view the coastline only from designated safe areas.

The management of natural spaces in the Canary Islands is back in the spotlight following new warnings about the condition of La Garañona beach in El Sauzal. This 1.3-kilometer stretch of volcanic coastline highlights the ongoing struggle between the beauty of Tenerife’s northern shore and the fragile, 200-meter-high cliffs that tower above it.

Authorities strongly advise against trying to reach the beach due to the dangerous terrain. The old fishermen's path is now badly damaged and prone to rockfalls, making it unsafe for pedestrians. When you combine this unstable ground with the powerful Atlantic waves—which are much rougher here than on the island's southern coast—any attempt to reach the sand becomes a high-risk activity.

For safety reasons, officials emphasize that visitors should only view the area from designated spots. The La Garañona Park-Viewpoint is the only safe place to enjoy the scenery without putting yourself in danger. Additionally, visitors are reminded to check weather reports from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) before heading to the coast, as conditions in northern Tenerife can change rapidly, making it even more dangerous for those who wander off marked paths.
